As a reminder, this Saturday the neighborhood is coming together to help clean up the unsightly “ditch” that runs from Gimlet over to Bowdock.
Briefly, this common area was the responsibility of the declarant (builders) before the declarant ceded to the HOA. As such it was their responsibility to maintain, but as with most of the neighborhood, the previous declarant was not doing a good job at all of keeping the neighborhood maintained.
The current HOA Board reached out multiple times using multiple avenues to get the declarant to abide by their responsibilities to get the area cleaned. We also reached out to multiple media outlets hoping to get some exposure of the less than desirable practices of the builders. Unfortunately, all these attempts led to dead ends…leaving the current HOA Board with a mess to clean up.
We proceeded by obtaining several quotes from professional landscaping companies on the cost for cleanup. These quotes ranged from $9,000-$12,000, and averaged right around $10,000. In an effort to avoid spending this money, the Board decided to seek enough neighborhood volunteer support and clean the ditch up ourselves at a cost far less than the quoted costs from the landscapers.
Many hands make light work! If you can please spare an hour or two (or more!) we will be meeting on Gimlet on Saturday, April 9th at 10 AM. Please bring any tools that might be of assistance such as weedeaters, shovels, rakes, garden trash bags etc. Long pants/sleeves and gloves are also recommended. Can’t get into the ditch to clean up? That’s OK too! Maybe you could bring a few bottles of water, or just bring yourself and keep your neighbors company. At the very least, it will be nice to meet folks that want to make the neighborhood look better right?
We appreciate this first chance at a neighborhood event to better our community and look forward to meeting as many of you as we can.
